The Seventh Annual Irish Bouldering Meet will be on the weekend of Friday 19th to Sunday 21st March based in the I.M.C Hut in Glendasan Country Wicklow.

The Hut has cooking facilities and bunks/wooden platforms (you will need a sleeping bag and something soft to lie on - bouldering mat?) for about 40 people on a first come first served basis. If the hut fills up there is plenty of room to camp in the garden (It can get a bit noisy in the hut so those looking so a quiet nights sleep might be better considering camping also). Either way the cost is €10 per night (please pay me as early as possibile on the weekend).

Usually we plan to go to Glendalough on the Saturday and Glenmacnass on the Sunday but when the weather was very changeable we would give Glenmacnass a miss . Last year a few decent new problems were climbed in the scree in Glendalough, it would be good to continue that trend this year. Another possibility would be check out some of the less popular - but very good - bouldering in the valley above the hut, there is well over a hundred problems in the Glendasan/Wicklow Gap area and plenty of the new problems to be done.

So come along, the weekend is a great laugh and is a good chance for to meet up with your fellow climber and do some great bouldering.

This year we hope to have a bouldering quiz on the Saturday night in the hut if I can get a loan of a digital projector or in the Hotel if they will let us use a room for free.

You can download a larger verison of the poster to put up at your local climbing wall or anywhere it might be seen from TheShortSpan website

hey guys,
this will be my first bouldering meet does anyone have an idea what to bring etc.
I have been climbing since sept last so i am not going to be looking at doing any 8a's so is there a good balance in the groups? at the moment i can get up v3 in ucd (with a lot of tries) and have yet to try outdoors but would definitely like to give it a go with the weather getting better.
I was out in Dalkey yesterday and done 2 VS 4c without to much work
cheers

What to bring?
sleeping bag, boots, chalk, food for the weekend, beer/wine for the weekend and a good sense of humor and your best banter armor.
You might also like to include bouldering pad although there will be loads up there and some kind of offetry to the great god David Flanagan (This can be in the form of goods or money) also money for the overnights in the imc hut.

As for quanitiys 20-30 people but the more the merryer!

there is also an imra (mountain running) event in Glendalough on the 20th, im unsure if it plans to use the miners village/zig zag route to camaderry but if it does the place could be jammers for a while that day,
http://imra.ie/events/view/id/794/
just a heads up,
on second look, it seems that it doesnt go anywhere near the upper lake miners village area,

No, it goes up the forestry track to the right quite close to the upper lake car park. However its a good point - some IMRA races can have 200 runners and the car park could be busy. They are pretty good at car pooling tho'

Just a reminder to all about the meet. Would be great to see a load of people come along to this. Great chance to meet other climbers and do some climbing.

Anyone from the Belfast area going?  Far too expensive to take public transport, plus the thought of lugging around my crashmat on trains/buses...

I can leave anytime and return anytime, schedule is free.

Will pitch in for petrol and beers!

I have a crashmat I can bring, however if the car is full of crashmats than I can leave it at home.

OK well as I haven't heard from anyone yet, is there a possibility of getting a ride from someone from Dublin?

I can take the train to Connely station, and meet someone anywhere at anytime in dublin on friday.

Would like to get there earlier if possible and get a few problems in on friday!  I have a crashmat if needed, but can leave it at home if there isn't room.

Sorry mate, I've never been there before!

I'm going off the info from this site: http://irishmountaineeringclub.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=38

Says its right around Glendalough.  I guess if you email the person on the site, they can give directions, or if someone who is organising the weekend should post some directions, GPS coordinates, google map link, etc

That's me who looks after both the Hut and the IMC site! The directions should really be there; I'll put a map up 2moro. To get there from Dublin, follow the N11 Wexford road from Donnybrook, or the M50 which leads on to the N11, bypass Bray, then turn off (towards Glendalough) at Kilmacanogue, going straight through Roundwood, Annamoe, Laragh (last shop for supplies of food'n'drink). 1.5km after Laragh there's a major fork in the road, take the right one, and about 1km up the road on the left is the Hut (it says IMC Hut on the pillar, slow down or you might miss it). GPS coords are 53°1.014, 6°20.309.

If you haven't got a car or a lift, check out St. Kevin's Bus, twice daily from Dublin to Laragh/Glendalough. The website is www.glendaloughbus.com .
