Hey..

Recently unemployed and living in Navan = no tipping into UCD for indoor training anymore.
There ain't no climbing possibilities in Co.Meath that I'm aware of... so...  Cry
I may do a cheap as possible home build as I have an attic that will take two small walls and a large 3m x 4m concrete wall above my stairs that is teasing me.
So.. my question is:
1) Do you know where one may pick up climbing holds at a reasonable price?
2) If you have any advice on home builds then please feel free to share.

Cheers.

Just an after thought that occurred to me on browsing thought the home walls...
Has anyone every considered setting up a kinda 'home wall share site?'
Only those who have a home wall could participate (+ a friend invite).. this would expand the knowledge basis for home wall construction and it would also develop more cooperation within the climbing community.
It would invariably lead to more projects like the co-op in the South side.
How cool would it be to have a Irish network of home walls to visit and use when your away from home and the weather turns to shit.
Of course trust would have to play a big part in such an adventure... but nothing ventured nothing gained.
Just an off-the-cuff thought.

Try dr climbing walls or Enterprise in uk both can provide holds etc.
they can even send you panels (suggest plain ones not textured) they were about £120 per 4by 4ft or 1.2 m
they pre drilled with i think only 12 holes in for bouldering you could ask for more i think. Marine ply does the job also you can by paint with friction paint also from DR i think .
Make sure you can take the panel off and the t nut placements always come off making hole useless if you have permenantly bolted it to a wall.

I intend to build onto a nice concrete wall... two flanking walls are partition which I may use also and extend it onto the ceiling.
As you may have gathered I'm a single bloke = I do what I want w/my place
I'm going to build myself w/marine ply.. and the initial hand holds will be the cut-offs' from wooden picture frames and a few purchased holds... money is tight.
My biggest problem is that it's over the stairs.. so I'm gonna have to engineer some form of trap door that can handle a fall (obviously it'll be covered w/a mattress).
Early days but the possibilities are exciting.

Be careful putting it into a roofspace - repeated falls onto the floor can knock the plasterboard of the ceiling below......

hi i am in the same financial situation so had the same thought.

I found these holds for super cheap after a good bit of searching (warning i have not seen them yet but made in germany so can not be that bad) if you want to read the info just stick the page into google translator
http://stores.shop.ebay.de/X-Climb-Kletterausrustung__W0QQ_armrsZ1

Also to save on costs I was thinking of using m6 bolts with a washer rather than the ridiculously expensive/strong m10 but this was based on seeing the holds. if anyone knows a reason that you need such a strong bolt please let me know

I was more thinking about the bannisters in the photo. You could have that down and turned into holds before you'd finish a double episode of Jeremy Kyle on ChavTV
