Every year the Irish Mountaineering Club (IMC) runs introductory training for new members covering rock-climbing, bouldering and mountainskills.

This years training will kick off again in April in Dalkey quarry. There will be a presentation at 8pm on the 25th March in the Teachers Club opposite the Rotunda Hospital to let new and prospective members know what the format of the sessions will be and to give some general advice on how to get started rock-climbing.

The goal of the introductory training is to give some basic instruction as well as help new members get to know existing club members and build up some contacts that should help them get out and about this summer.

The dates are all below and further information on how to join the IMC can be found on www.irishmountaineeringclub.org  Anyone needing more information or those wishing to book a place can also contact me at training@irishmountaineeringclub.org

25th March Teachers Club, Introductory presentation for new members
17th April - Introductory Rockclimbing day for new members, Dalkey quarry
17th April - Additional anchor building & gear placement refresher for existing members  Dalkey quarry

22nd April - Introductory rockclimbing evening, Dalkey quarry

6th May - Introductory rockclimbing evening, Dalkey quarry
22nd/23rd May - Glendalough spring meet

One final note the IMC introductory sessions are not a replacement for formal training in mountaineering and rock-climbing and anyone looking for this should contact a commercial training provider, a list is available on the Mountaineering Ireland web site

regards,

Dave
