Professional climber and climbing coach, Andy Earl, will be giving a lecture and slideshow in the Great Outdoors store (Chatham St, Dublin 2) on 22 March at 7pm.

Andy has been at the forefront of the British climbing scene for several years making significant ascents in his home county of Northumberland and beyond in the UK and Europe. Andy was British Bouldering Champion for three consecutive years from 2003-06 and competed for Great Britain at international level for 5 years, culminating in a 1st place win in the 2007 World Cup round in La Reunion.

On 23 March Andy will be giving a climbing masterclass at the Arch Bouldering Co-Op in Dublin.

Anyone go? What did you think of it? Were many people there? Anyone do the masterclass or gear tryout session at TCD?

I went to the lecture and while he was avery affible guy it was a bit like looking at someones holiday snaps. There was some lovely pictures and I have now added a few more areas to visit but I'm glad I didn't offer any cash. There wasn't many people around but I think that's down to the usual lack of promo. If you hadn't posted here or emailed etc I wouldn't have know and only hitting the shortspan the day before was odd.  Not blaming you steve unless you are taking up another job as an ad exec.

Its a funny story about the promo. First I heard about it was a paper flyer distributed by GOD at the MI AGM where I guess a small percentage of the 36 attendees may have noticed or taken an interest. I never received an email about it or anything like that which is a bit odd these days as the gaffer of the busiest climbing website in Ireland! I did however give the GOD rep my email address for future shows. I did find a notice  of the event in the depths of the MI website so as usual I do my usual trick of ripping it onto a thread here, sending out a email notice to 900+ valid email addresses of the climbers reading this site as subscribers and putting it on the main page - all without being asked or getting a Bolivian peso for my trouble. I then as an afterthought posted it on theshortspan as I thought it was somewhat relevant - at this stage wondering why I'm bothering my arse promo'ing someone else's gig on someone else's website without even been asked. But there you go - you'd be amazed how common this scenario is.
