The Mournes guide was the first guide they put out to tender so its not voluntary.

You can read a bit more about it here: http://www.fairheadclimbers.com/cgi-bin/m_b/YaBB.pl?board=mournes;action=display;num=1126285312

I asked at the MI AGM whether the Mournes guide would be on the shop shelves by July this year and was told way before then.

I called Mountaineering Ireland and I was told today Thursday 11 March 2010 that they have no idea when the Mournes Guide book will be available. They have no infomation about where it is and what is happening with it.

I'm confident of my info. I'll see what I can do to get more a more "official" story.

Ah. You can't get away with saying 'was reviewed by the MI, deemed complete' anymore Gonzo, you are the MI.
Have you any info on the format it will take? If <queue dramatic music> 'the MI' have seen it, then someone in there knows what it looks like. Is it a reprint with additions or rockfax based etc?

Well there was a copy knocking about at the bouldering meet. Looks good to me. Lots of colour photos, topos. Highly visual - clear style, colour code route markers.

I didn't get a copy to review as MI director or anything like that. To be honest I'm letting this one take its natural course without interfering. Its with Si Moore at the moment and Karl in MI is tracking it. They'll bring it to the finish line without needing my interference.

There's a review on guide book production starting up at the moment behind the scenes in MI and thats where I'm applying my effort. A new Donegal guide seems to be the next in line and I want to make sure that every help that MI can offer to the editor is available before they start into it. So I'm kinda looking forward on this one.....

Actually I spoke too soon. I'm getting a preview hardcopy of the guide this eve at the Andy Kirkpatrick show. Happy to show it off to anyone who's there and asks. I'll bring it down to the Gap Meet as well.

I've also asked for a screen grab of a couple of pages from the PDF to stick up here as a taster. Should get it later.

Talking about an early May launch party possibly.....maybe co-inciding with O-zone IBC comp?

All to be confirmed...

It might be interesting to people on the form to be exposed to some of the issues and discussions that take place during the “review”.  It may give a better understanding of the objectives and limitations of guide book production and would give climbers an opportunity to have an input (constructive) into the review.

Just a thought.
